I just heard on the news how the animals are killed when fur coats are made, and I was appalled. The are beaten over the head and skinned alive. Sick. This leads me to my quesiton. Why do people feel the need to wear real fur coats, when fake fur looks practically identical? Are some people so selfish, that they would wear a coat made from an animal that died in vain, just to be stylish?

In old European and Russian society, you had status when you could buy a fur coat. It had to be the right kind of fur because you wouldn't be caught with the lowest kind of fur coat. You wanted the expensive ones. Women wore them with gemstones and boots in the winter or as a shawl over your evening dress. People often used furs as a form of money. You were nothing if you didn't own many different kinds of expensive furs.

That is true today. Owning a fur is glamourous. Some people today don't like how fake fur has a little of a different texture. It doesn't look exactly the same like real either. Only expensive faux fur looks a lot like the real thing BUT it costs AS MUCH as the real fur in the 1,000s! So people who are looking to have a beautiful faux coat will more often buy a real fur coat because the realistic ones are expensive anyway. In some cases, great fauxs can even be slightly more expensive than the real ones!

People fight a lot over whether it is right to wear leather...is it ok because you use the cows anyway for meat? Even then....if you slaughter a cow and 10 chinchillas, you're killing both in vain. Shouldn't it be wrong to wear any animal skin?

The idea of wearing fur has been around since man kind learned to hunt. Once an animal was killed for it's food the remaining skin or fur was found to help keep the hunters warm. This is a practice the still goes on today in such ways of leather and fur coats. It is ashame that we DO still find it necassary to hunt wild animals for their fur only. Many animals are actually farmed just for their fur, which means raised to be slaughtered for fur, but we can use the rest of the animal for other things. Is this right? I think it's better than going out and killing animals in the wild. Why do people still want to wear wild animal fur, status is the best reason I can think. That status only goes as far as a small circle of friends you think you impress. I find it a little discusting to see the face of a dead animal around someones neck as some coats or wraps are made that way. As long as people are there to buy these coats then there will be people to go out and make the money off of the slaughter of them. Also to be fair, some animals are over populated and it helps to control population with removel of some. Would I buy a coat, No I wouldn't, too expensive for my taste.

I know. Whenever I can tell a person a is wearing a fur coat, I just think to myself "Loser".

I go on PETA.com a lot, and I have seen videos on how they kill the animals. I cannot, absolutely cannot believe it. And ever heard of China Fur Farms? Yeah guess what kind of animals they skin to make some types of fur over there, which ends up here?-----Cats and Dogs. Sick isn't it?

And do you know how many animals in takes to make a fur coat? Many people think like, 3. Um no.
Take chinchillas for example. It takes 160 to 200 chinchillas to make a fur coat!!!! ..............Hundreds.

I'm glad you brought this up, and people who wear real fur should really think about what they are wearing and where it comes from.......Or WHO I should say.
Thats why I would never wear fur....or buy food from IAMS for my cat and dogs.

Btw....I think fur is ugly!

If you understand what a fashion victim is, then you know the answer. Fake Prada means nothing; it's go real or go home. Fur has been made into a fashion statement, and it's like the ultimate status symbol. I feel very sad about all the girls longing for the death of another beautiful animal, but fur has an "image" that will always be there, and the fact is, most ppl just don't care.

I agree! Have you ever visited the PETA website? They have a lot more information on that, and other things. A lot of the time, that fur is from a dog, people to kidnap dogs and skin them for fur coats.

IAMS dogfood abuses their dogs, in the laboratories. They scratch their gums to give them diseases, they have no toys or any human contact except for a hand thatbrings food once or twice a day. They even give them wounds and things to test their product.

And animal testing... oh goodness... I'm not going to get started on that.

As an animal lover i TOTALLY agree with u. It's soo wrong. I guess people just want the rights to say "This is so not faux, it costed a fortune but i bought it any way." Or maybe they think it's softer or warmer. One things for sure, for me faux is the way to go. The nerve of some people!

many people wear them ,esp. celebrities because:

It shouts: I"M SO RICH

They think if the animal is already dead, why not just wear its beautiful fur? nothing I could do to bring it back to life. its already in coat form

Some people just prefer real over fake. In gernal. for everything. dunno

I AM SO ANTI-FUR

Why do people eat real cows, chickens, pigs, etc.? Same school of thought. I used to be a vegatarian, didn't wear leather or fur. Now I eat meat, wear leather & have a fur trimmed coat. I do it because it's warm and I don't think animals care WHY they're dieing ... I doubt they justify that death is okay as long as a human eats me and doesn't wear me. And I don't think all fur is taken from animals "skinned alive." Don't believe everything you see on TV.
