To become a lawyer, you pass the BAR--that is a test given by the state you are in to see if you qualify. (You must also be of good character.)
To be able to take the BAR exam, you pass an accredited law school, which you enter after you graduate from college.
Once you are a lawyer, you can specialize--that's up to you, although of course in your law school you can take classes relating to what you want to focus on. Some specialties offhand: marriage/divorce, accidents, real estate, contracts, crime, civil courtroom cases, social security & disability, business, insurance, tax, entertainment, international law, marine law--virtually anything affected by law.

I would get an undergrad degree in Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, Criminal Justice and Psychology. Then spend 3 years in law school and then work on your concentration in many areas from Enviromental law to Family law. There are many areas to choose from it's the one that you want to work in or you can choose to do mediation litigation.
