The letter is from Fidelity recovery services and says they have found 2900.00 dollars owed too me. If I sign the consent papers they get to keep 33 1/3 of that as a finders /processing fee. I actually do not have a big problem with their fee because it is money I knew nothing about. I just want to know if this is legit? Also, if the money is really there are there other ways to find it on my own.

You can find your money without it costing so much. These companies are for the most part legit. They bank on the fact that most people will not want to look for money on their own and will pay the fee. But check out this website and you may be able to avoid the fee. http://www.unclaimed.org/mainframe.asp?VisitorType=owner

BTW thanks I just went to this website and found over $100.00. Look in every state you have ever lived.

This sounds like a scam to me. Why would you need to pay a recovery fee for your own money? All you would have to do is contact the company who owes it to you and they're generally required by law to remit it to you. It sounds like someone is trying to get your bank account information (Fidelity Recovery will undoubtedly "need" your account number to deposit your percentage).

Be very, very, careful here-this has the smell of identity theft all over it.

I would take the letter to a Fidelity consultant and show them .

i think that would be scam. try to check if it has a return address. most valid mails does have their own contact info and signature on the paper. try checking if it comes from your own state. if it has an address, try visiting the area. its hard to trust people these days.
