I have my own business in the health benefits field and it cost very little to start. The company I work with is really great and I still get benefits and a 401k plan, though I am an independent broker. Yes. Two guys who are a client of mine started a mortgage brokerage company 4 years ago (their first business). They invested $10,000 on marketing, some basic office supplies and office space. The last two years they have each earned in the 7-figure range and had at most 60 brokers working for them. The mortgage business has cooled off but they will probably still clear in the mid-6-figure range each in 2007.
