I need some fill dirt for my yard. At construction sites, they always have big piles of dirt, some obviously just dug up, but some that looks like "new" dirt. Do they have dirt left over, and if so, do you think they would let me take some if I ask?

If a lot of dirt has to be removed from a construction site (sometimes it can be just moved around), it's often available to anyone willing to come and get it. On occasion, it can be delivered.

Look for a construction site that seems to have an excessive amount of dirt. Look for the name of the company on the site and then call their office. Ask if they're making available the dirt.

Really.

Place a sign in your yard "Clean Fill Wanted" or make a flier saying the same with your address and phone. Leave the fliers where you see work being done. Most of the time they're just glad to get rid of it..........

Also, check your local newspaper. It's not very expensive anyway if you had to pay for delivery.
