I just read this article and was completely apalled. Why are we still sending people to jail for a goddam plant? I have smoked pot everyday for the last 10 years. I have two college degrees in computers, a great job and have not been in trouble with the law since before I started smoking pot. How can a country with such wishy-washy morals criminalize people for smoking pot? When will we end this "war on drugs" that has obviously failed? We spend more money arresting, prosecuting and housing these so-called criminals than many countries make in a year. Legalize it, tax it and stop all the bullcrap.

I used to be a huge opponent of the legalization of marijuana, medical or otherwise because I thought it had legit health risks. Then I intensely researched the subject, not from pro-pot websites, but from well respected scientific articles. Many of the articles were the same ones the DEA supposedly read to help make its 'unbiased decision' on pot’s risks and benefits.

The DEA, among other organizations, has been incredibly misleading with its claims on marijuana addiction, on its health risks, on it being a gateway drug. Even the age old claim ‘marijuana makes you unproductive and a failure at life’ is bullshit; Richard Feynman, who won the Physics Nobel Prize in quantum electrodynamics, used pot frequently. Just one in a long list of very successful pot users.

Looking at all the evidence marijuana really is as dangerous as alcohol and tobacco, but I shouldn't be surprised. What I am surprised at is how much the federal government goes out of its way to slander these studies.

So what now? I’m going to join the potheads down the hall and do some research of my own.

i strongly agree with you. i've blazed every day for about two years and im a 20 year old engineer. (and they say weed makes you dumb) i beleive the states should have there own sayin in the law. like you said legalize it and then tax it would be a great idea. there has never once been a death from weed and there most likely never will be. i also beleive that it should be used has a heavy depression medication. but realistically i dont think we'll see this happen anytime soon. parents accrossed the counrty would freak out. and its prolly way more of a hassle legallizing it then it is to just to keep it like it is.

America will not wake up to the positive effect that Marijuana will have on the country because, simply, America is stupid and corrupt. Too many large businesses profit from that fact that Marijuana is illegal, namely textile manufacturers and America is consumerism, it's all about business. The "reefer madness" stigma is also still present, people never having tried it, believe it's bad because people say it's bad and those people control the country, conservative upchucks.

Not only will the legalization of marijuana cause the quality of what's available to dramatically rise (since they will assign scientists to study, test, and improve), but all of that precious drug money that is so needed right now will be dramatically decreased. And again, drug money is needed.

Adults grew up with all of that disgusting propaganda and they still believe that it's true to this day. Now those adults instill morals in their children and they run the country.

It has been shown that as soon as countries legalize marijuana, alcohol sales, general crime rates, accidents, and "harder" drug sales go down. Again, bad for business.

The man that was to lead the legalization process, Jimmy Carter, fell to political pressures.

There's a ridiculous amount of things that can be done with this renewable source (food, medical, clothing, alternative fuels, etc), but it's not going to happen because of sheer ignorance, pressure, and corruption.

I completely support the legalization of Marijuana, although I don't smoke it myself. We should start protesting. I've got my sign ready.

Blame Anslinger. ******' Reagan.

MARIJUANA - LESS HARMFUL THAN YOU THINK
People die from drinking too much water - Nobody has EVER died from smoking too much weed.

Legalizing it is not the answer but decriminalizing it is. To legalize it would mean that children could buy it.

It's the oil companies who are giving massive amounts of money to keep it illegal. It's has been found that a cleaner burning fuel can be made from pot at a cheaper cost and the oil companies don't like the idea of cheaper fuel than their oil or fossil fuels.

I completely agree. The government would make money, instead of spending it, if they'd legalize and tax it.

It causes fewer car accidents than alcohol - although that might change if it were legalized and more readily available.

Since it's not addictive, there are fewer crimes perpetrated because of pot, than alcohol or other drugs.

California's prison over-crowding would probably go away, if you just got rid of the guys who are in there for selling pot.

But it'll never happen...it's just too taboo. For pete's sake, we can't even get the government to allow FDA-regulated medical testing (wouldn't want to use it for good, now would we?).

It will become legal when they can better regulate it a.k.a. can they tell/test whether you are high now, an hour ago or was it 30 days ago when you last smoked a joint. Current methods only detect that marijuana has been used wthin too broad of a spectrum.

i think people forget that cannabis is a gateway drug. legalizing it would just make more people smoke it and then it can easily lead to hard drugs. of course there are a few people like those who have posted here, arent dumb and obviously dont do anything more than pot, but youve got to remember that there are some reallly dumb ***** in the world who would. so im afraid that because of them you have to put up with it being illegal. but hey thats life.

I wonder how legalizing it will hinder the quality? Will we be able to sue growers and manufactures for gazillions like we have the tobacco industry?
