My mum had a Hoover Keymatic in the late fifties, I think that was the first automatic on the market

It was in the late60s and it was called the Hoover keymatic. you had a square piece of plastic with a different programme on each side. this was the "key". You just put the plastic programme you wanted into the slot, and away it went.

I dont know when they first appeared,but my wife and I bought an English Electric "Liberator" in 1960

in 1443 we have historic proof that william wallace mum washed his kilt in a front loader,she used to say to him..."daz(equal to damn) we'll never get those clean" thats where daz originated from

My mother bought one in 1964. She had read about them in a paper, made enquiries, and was able to order one. I can't remember anyone else having one before that time, whom I knew.
