I have single glazing and live in a council house. I have been told by a freind that there is a law saying that if you live near a main road, you have to legally have double glazing fitted. Also, do council housing authorities have to legally install double glazing if the tennant has a health problem that is directly affected by not having double glazing?

I shouldn't think so, in fact, many would argue double glazing is more unhealthy than single, due to the often inadequate ventilation in houses with double glazing - stuffy stagnant air and increased dust mites etc.
I can't think of a single health problem that could be directly affected by not having double glazing - please enlighten me!

...unless you're talking about a hearing deficit, in which case, it would be a matter of getting the noise control people involved to measure noise pollution in the house, and making a case for double glazing that way. I don't know that any such claim would get much credence, though.

The answer is NO!! If you don't believe me then just go to your council and ask - prepare to be laughed at!! It is probably where you should have gone to in the first place instead of wasting peoples time on here!!
