I know some herbal teas are off limits to pregnant women, but is green tea safe?

I just got the 411 on this from my doctor. The reason that they caution the use of herbs during pregnancy is because they aren't sure of the effects on the fetus. Herbs regarded as safe for ingestion are usually okay to drink or eat in moderation like once or twice a week. All medicinal herbs are off limits because the dosages are generally too high. Green tea and teas like chamomile which are beneficial to your health are teas that are included in the okay list. If you still have concerns run it by your doctor. Since i've asked i've had chamomile nightly since i have trouble sleeping and despite hearing that it induces labor and things of the sort, I have not had any complications. what should be avoided is the caffeine but they have caffeine free teas for that purpose.

Alot of doctors will not recommend to drink green tea because of the caffeine and because green tea has other things in it aside from other teas. I think black tea is better because it doesn't have what green tea has, get it decaffeinated. It is ok to drink a small amount as long as your not drinking it everyday. I had some green tea a couple times, everything is fine.

Green tea is perfectly safe. It also has less caffeine than other caffeinated drinks, which is always a plus (especially if you are concerned about caffeine intake). You can always drink the decaffeinated green tea if you prefer...so yummy!

One of the books I read said they aren't really sure about Green tea, I would talk to your doctor to be sure.

No. Green tea has natural antioxidents that boost your metabolisim. Pregnancy is not the time when you want to lose weight.

It is safe- but either buy decaf or drink no more than 1-2 cups a day. I drank it throughout my whole pregnancy.

you should avoid any kind of caffine altogether, but there are some teas that you can drink with no caffine just read the label.
