i am upgrading my 2nd system with a better graphic card ,but if the next card requires a power supply can i disable my 2nd optical drive(cd-rw/dvd rom) and use the 5v power lead for any graphic power supply if needed
will this mean i wont have to upgrade my p.s.u,as i wont be using any extra power as i will be using the power that was originally used by my cd-rw
cheers!

Your AGP card doesnt use a seperate power source. You are misunderstanding the requirements. Your PC power supply itself may need upgradint. If your power supply is 500 watts or more you should be okay. Make sure you have the ram requirements and the needed processor speed too!

Doesn't work like that unfortunately, an AGP card that needs a molex connection will draw a lot more current than a cd-rw, if you have no spare molex blocks then its likely that the power supply wont supply enough.

Before you install that card, make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements. Once you install it, it's yours whether it works or not.

You could use a Y splitter so you can still use your CD-Drive. They only cost $3 to $4. The other option would be to upgrade your power supply to ensure you have all you need.

Upgrade the power supply and don't do the Y split thing. Had a BFG nVidia 6800GTOC and it said specifically not to. Besides why would you want to choke the card for power?
