Reviews of the "intercooler" fan attachment for the XBOX 360 all say that its LOUD! If you can take the noise of the fan, go ahead. The reviews also say that the fan can also create electrical problems for the 360 including burning up a mother board. It is not manufactured by Microsoft so there is no guarantee it will work right. The fan is only really needed if you plan on staying up days on end playing intense demanding games. If you give your XBOX proper ventilation, you should be good to go anyway. Basically keep it out of a cabinet when playing it. Occasionally blow any dust build up off the stock fan. The XBOX 360 is designed to handle its own load, there is no real need for it. As for the disk cleaner, just go buy a generic one. It will be cheap, and do the same thing as a more expensive one.

I've heard a bunch of horror stories about the Nyko Intercooler. When the guy's Xbox 360 got really hot the thing melted onto the back of his 360, voiding the warranty. I don't think you need a cooler anyway because if you did Microsoft would show it on the website. As for disk cleaners you can look at the above answers.

No. I have heard many horror stories about the fan attachment. For one, they are a 3rd party device (since Microsoft does not sell an external fan) and immediately void your warranty once you hook it up to the system.

Secondly, and more importantly, most of them run off of the same power supply that the XBox 360 uses. The XBox uses that power supply only for its internal processes necessary to correctly run games. If that power supply is dropped by the introduction of the fan, certain components inside of the XBox aren't going to have the sufficient voltages to work properly. And I have heard from many sources that this causes games to crash unexpectedly and in some cases, damage the XBox. None of those external fans should be sold unless they have a separate plug for power so that they do not leach off of the XBox's supply of power!

The fans aren't necessary, anyway. It's more important to keep the XBox in a well ventilated area. The main things to avoid are placing it horizontally on carpet (which absorbs and holds heat close to the system) and/or keeping the system in a closed in space. I keep mine underneath my TV in a wooden TV stand, and it only has about 4-6" clearance on either side. I think that standing it vertically helps air circulation as well. However, I've never had any problems.

If you must have a fan to help it stay cool, I would suggest simply buying a small $5-$10 fan and aiming it at the XBox when playing for prolonged periods of times. Do NOT buy the external XBox 360 fans, though.

it is if you have had a problem with your 360 (as i have) and are nervous about problems. Also some add more functionality, such as adding a HDMI port (check out IGN "gear" for reviews)
a good disk scratch removal tool is disk doctor, which is pretty cheap (round 20 bucks, maybe 15) and has saved a couple disks after the 360 went from vertical to horizontal while playing the disk. (cats are not good with 360's)
