Is the herb Echinacea harmful if ingested?

Is there anything that may cause harm when using this other herb?

I'm assuming no, because there were no warnings, but you can never be too sure about these things.

The potent part of the Echinacea plant is the root. It is most potent when dug in the fall, after the seed pod has formed. Of the species, Angustifolia and Purpurea are the only ones widely tested. The leaf and flower are practically worthless, and is the main component of the cheaper brands I've seen in the supermarket. The most potent medicines are extracts, either liquid or powder, standardized is best. Powdered Echinacea capsules should be grayish white, NOT green.

The only warning I've ever seen is that if you are allergic to ragweed you might possibly have a reaction to Echinacea. If you chewed on fresh root very long, it would numb your tongue.
