yes i think you should. there is nothing wrong with it ,but make sure that your wife knows that its just a friendship and not a romantic one

It would be different if you had known that woman before you met your wife but in this situation that you just described, you are asking for trouble. First of all, they were friends first and now they're not close for whatever reasons. How do you think that makes your wife feel to be best buddies with an ex-friend of hers? Yeah it's nice that you helped the lady out of whatever problems she was going through but what you did, your pastor of your church could had done too. This is going to end up being a recipe for disaster. If you find that your wife is unhappy down the road eventually with this friendship then by all means I hope you end it for the sake of your marriage which is supposed to always come first.

I don't think so. It is nice that you want to be supportive to this woman, but its going to hurt your relationship. If you are being pulled away from time with your wife and family to "take care" of another woman it will damage your relationship. Your wife probably understands on some level that you are just trying to help the woman and thats why she is ok with it sometimes, but it still probably hurts to have you developing this dependent relationship with someone else especially another female, thats why shes not ok with it. I would encourage the woman to get into a support group of some kind, maybe through the church. Its nice that you want to be there for her, but these things have a habit of growing into more. Even if it isn't more for you it could become more for her.

If your wife dont like her leave her alone. She has to find another way to deal with her problems b4 you start having your own problems in your home. Sometimes people are in peoples lives for a "season". Your season with this lady is over.
