I use a USB modem to connect to my DSL internet connection.

However, I have a new computer (this time a notebook) which allows my to connect to the internet wireless.

Therefore, I need to know how I could connect my USB modem into a WIRELESS connection for my lap top in order to use it anywhere within my household.

replace the modem with a wireless router that has a built in dsl modem, it plugs into the line the same way but instead of connecting your laptop to it using a wire it'll connect wirelessly.

Hopefully you aren't locked down to the USB modem but if you are it is still doable.

One way would be to buy a wireless router or AP, doesnt really matter which. Assuming you are using XP on your old computer, enable ICS (internet connection sharing) from the USB adapter to your ethernet port. Get a crossover cable from your PC ethernet interface to the router/AP.

Router Setup - DHCP server on which should be default. router will pull an IP address on its external interface from the older xp computer. now this will limit your ability to do port forwarding since you will poke 2 holes. 1 in XP and 1 in the router itself

AP setup - default settings should work just fine.

i would recommend securing both set ups.

The modem itself will not...you need to buy a wireless router and then plug the modem into that and then both computers can access the Internet at the same time.
