It seems that if you are popular you can get away with things that others can't. It also seems to be a case of it's not what you know it's who you know and are friends with.
Yes I am bitter and getting old! LOL

It's not if you don't enter, mate. Let the little twats think they're so great for being popular and just sit back and laugh at their idiocy. Mind you, you are right that it's not what you know but who you know that gets you places - major bummer. But I think I'd rather go nowhere than play their pathetic game (I, like you, am probably too old as well)!!

Popularity is only important and a contest if you enjoy being with people! 'Contest' implies competitiveness, so a certain breed of people will always be striving to be the most popular person in the office/street/sports club etc because it's in their nature. Anyway, popularity often comes at a price - you may know LOADS of people, but have very few close friends. I suppose by knowing lots of people you often do get further ahead in life because you have more opportunity to network and mix with people, who know people, who in turn know other people thus you get to hear more about job opportunities/night out etc.

Its the old, old story I'm afraid and as I get older I've realised that what you state is perfectly true ...and always has been and probably always will be. Think locally; does your nearest and dearest get away with things that someone else from around the corner wouldn't? I guess the answer, if you're honest, is ..Yes ! This is only the same as "those who are popular get away with it" Isn't it ??
You can't help getting old....but don't get bitter, accept it and move forward...maybe even be the one who's popular ...and YOU get way with it !

yes, it somewhat is a popularity contest. That's how it is with all animals including humans. People always want to be better than the other person and so on, cycle of dominating others or be dominated, etc. but, its not completely just a popularity contest...

If life is just one big popularity contest - what's the prize? And, at what price? That is the question we are all left to answer for ourselves.

Its certainly true in the world of work, over the years i've seen lots of people get promoted - not down to hard work or even being particularly good at thier job, but down to the fact that they have their lips firmly pressed against the right arseholes.

It is in Hollywood, but with age you come to realize that popularity is not all that it is made out to be. If it boils down to who you know in this world, you are living a life of falsehood so get real. Trust God to protect and provide. Put no faith in man.

life is a dog-eat-dog world, who can cause enough s*it at the water cooler and who can brainwash enough people to believe what you believe in.
