You can't 'extend' your salary cap unless you win championships. However, you can end up OVER the cap because of salarys changing in the offseason. The trading part has nothing to do with your cap space. The amount of money traded just has to be within 25%. Say its year 2 of a dynasty and you are the Mavs and really really want LeBron and he makes about 5 mill. The trick I use it go to your junk players and find out what they want. Say they want a center that makes about 2 mill. Give them him and Josh Howard. That should get you LeBron. Trading is all about finding those junk players that other teams need and pairing them with B-List players for an A-List players.
