He said that I was right on track at 28 weeks... is it every cm=a week? How can they tell? He didn't tell me the measurement. But is it when you are 33 weeks, you should measure about 33 cm? or is it different than that?

You got it!
after 12 weeks or so your fundus should be equivalent to 1cm/week of pregnancy. It can vary a couple cm's either way though so don't depend too much on that. So for you 28 weeks a "normal" measurement would be between 26cm-30cm. It isn't very reliable but can tell the practitioner if baby is exceptionally small or big
I ALWAYS measure 2-3 weeks ahead but I also birth big babies :)

My doctor usually just tells me that I'm right on track too. The first time he gave me the actual measurement was this week - 33 cm at 33 wks.

He is measuring from the pelvice bone to where he feels the top of your uterus is. That point should be a little higher each time you go in. It is supposed to be 1 cm a week, but it's ok if it's not. As long as you are growing at a steady rate, it's ok to be off by a little bit. The doctor measures each time you go in so that he can see what is normal for you.

Good luck and congratulations on your little one!

You're right on - at 28 weeks, women usually average a fundal height of 28 cm and so on. This is just a general relationship though, so don't get freaked out if at 33 weeks you're measuring 32 or 34 cms.

Yes. You have it right. As your uterus gets bigger, so will your belly. The measurement they take is to check the size of your uterine growth. If the doctor says you're fine, then it is. Don't stress about it!! There is nothing wrong. But the measurements do go with how many weeks you are.

Doctor's like to monitor your fundal height b/c it can tell them a few things. 1) baby is growing, 2) can help monitor for polyhydramnious (too much water/ or not enough for baby) 3) that your uterus is accommodating baby properly. For bigger women they can measure alittle bigger b/c of belly fat but otherwise it should be about right on week for week (Ex. 20wks=20cm.)

Generally speaking, your fundal height is the same as the number of weeks along you are. It may vary slightly, but your doctor will let you know if something isn't right.
