I just got an LCD computer monitor. I was wondering if anybody would know how I go about cleaning it? Is there a different way to clean it than that of a normal screen?

I just wipe mine with a moist paper towel while its off about once a month, then dry it off... You probably wont need to do much more than that.

★★ CLEAN LCD SCREENS ★★

◙ Lightly spray windex on a really soft cloth and wipe the screen. Do not spray directly on the screen or some of the liquid might go inside and short out the wiring..

◙ Be very careful not to press very hard or you'll damage areas of the screen.

◙ You can buy a monitor protector to place over your screen. Another way is to cut out a piece of clear plexiglass slightly larger than the screen area and attach the plexiglass to the monitor with double-faced tape. This will keep people from pokiung the screen with their fingers and spraying the screen when they cough or sneeze.

★★ INTERNAL COMPUTER CLEANING ★★

◙ Be smart and take it to a computer repair shop. If you make one slip and knock a chip loose or accidentally unplug a cable your computer will stop working. The circuit boards are very brittle. Press too hard on one and you are done!

◙ A few tips for the future.

◙ Keep it up on a table off of the floor. When you walk around the room your feet stir up dust on the floor and the power supply fan sucks it right into the computer. Always keep your computer room as clean as possible. Do not put something over the power supply fan hole to keep out the dust. This will overheat your computer.

◙ If you have floppy drives and/or cd/dvd drives go to your local office supply store and get cleaning kits for them. They aren't very high priced and will save you tons of problems with disk errors.

◙ Do not store floppy disks in the direct sunlight. They are made of the same material photo film is made of. This will warp the disk out of shape. Never put them near a heat vent either.

I would avoid anything containing alcohol or ammonia.

Windex or other window cleaners contain ammonia. These are safe to use in a pinch, but should not be used regularly.

I prefer water on a soft cloth, being careful not to press hard.
