World War 1 was known as the Great War

Because at the end of the Great War, they didn't know there was going to be a second. After all, the Great War was the war to end all wars.

At that time they called it the Great War because people never seen a war like that, one that stretchted across a whole continent and involved so many countries.
They couldn't predict WW2. I think at the end of WW1 people never wanted to see another one like it.
When WW2 did erupt, the Great War had to become the first World War. WW2 was bigger in scope, destruction, idealogically, everything.
May we never see another one like it.

Because World War II eclipsed it.
Funny how they actually thought they could put an end to all war. History shows that as long as mankind is on earth there will be conflict. Hell, some of us can't even get along with our next door neighbor!
