Sorry. I asked a question a few minutes ago about having your membrains stripped. I am wondering if this helped anyone to go into labour with in a few days after having this done. I was only 1 to 2 cm dialated. Can you please tell me your experience on this? I had it done yesterday at 10am and am only having alot of mucus and some major pelvic pain and some very mild contractions.

I had my membranes stripped and went into labor about 36 hours later.

It doesn't ALWAYS work like that, but it does help in the long run.

I only had mine done with my youngest daughter....I went into the appointment at 1 pm had my membranes stripped and was in beginning stages of labor by 7 pm. I had my little one the next morning at 10 am.

It doesn't work that way with everyone....have known ladies to have it done twice and it never did anything for them.

But with the mucous, pelvic pain, and mild contractions it sounds as though you may even be in beginning stages of labor.

Good luck and congrats.

I had this done twice.
The first time I was 1-2 cm dilated. My midwife did it, and told me that in the first 24-48 hours labour could start. She said the first 24 hours are the most uncomfortable because it does trigger contractions to start, but then they taper and labour starts in the following 24 hours. I had it done on September 9th and I had my daughter on September 11th.

With my son (most recent) I had it done and it worked right away. She thought she felt his cord when she did it so she did a really big sweep and it put me into labour right away. I had him that day about 8 hours later.

The mucous is good :) that likely means your plug was dislodged WOOHOO!

Watch your contractions, watch for bloody show and GOOD LUCK!!!

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Stripping membranes releases hormones that trigger contractions. It can take a few days for them to kick in. If your body (or baby) isn't ready, then it won't do anything but make you uncomfortable. It is an easy way to put a woman into labor if she is ready, and usually is easier then inducing. It all just depends on your body and what it wants to do. Sorry to be so vague, so there really isn't a set, textbook answer to this.

I had it done, as the doc was inducing the next day. Other people on here have said it doesn't hurt that much, but it sure hurt me! Anyways, I was induced the next day, but I had started laboring through the night. You are probably in the first stages of labor. It's going to be awhile. You might try a walk, if you want to speed it up. I predict that you will probably be in the hospital within 48 hrs, though. Happy Baby!

I had my membranes stripped three times, and it caused a little cramping and nothing else. I finally got induced at 42 weeks. So it didn't work for me.

If your body isn't ready to have that baby, there's not a lot you can do. But if you're ready for labor to begin, it may speed the process a little bit. Hang on, and try to stay patient. Good luck!

I had this done at 2cms and 70% effaced. Nothing happend except for the mucus coming out more. If it works labor should start within 72 hours.
