I'm moving to another town in California that's 300 miles away. My destination has Sprint service, I'm just wondering if they can change the number or area code so my cell will be 'local' and so I don't have to get screwed with fines.

yeah its free just a relocation the contract just means that you keep a number with them but you can change it especially for that reason just go to a corporate store when you get there and they will change it right there or call the customer care hope that helps

Heads up, most Sprint plans have long distance calling. But anyways,,,,,,,
Yes, they can, only that if You are planing to get a new cell phone, do it together, because changing the phone, the plan, or the number automatically gives you a renewal of the contract. even if you don't want a renewal.
I hope I helped.

It used to be true that when you moved you had to do a "csa change" which included a new contract. I also worked for sprint and just before I left that policy was changed. You no longer need a contract renewal when you move.
