There exists a japanese legend of 'obasuteyama' or the mountain where old women were abandoned. The first ever anime film c. 1912 had this as its subject. I have found references to both, but can't find the full story or images from the film, or where I might get hold of a DVD/VHS copy of the vintage anime. Full text of the legend would be a great start. Sadly I don't read or speak Japanese. Help!

I looked it up for you.

It seems it was made in 1925, not 1912.
You could write to MOMAT and make enquiries.
URL is

but they don't accept any Emails.
The address is as follows.

東京国立近代美術館フィルムセンター
Tokyo Kokuritsu Museum Film Centre

They should be able to read English but I wouldn't recommend you to call them because it might be difficult to understand English over the phone.
