Social anxiety may be the result of complex neurochemical causes that will require professional attention to unravel. So if the common advice you get doesn't seem to help, you may want to see a therapist.

In most everyday situations, social anxiety is the result of doubts that have been instilled in you about yourself.

"Everyone else is competent, and they will know the minute I walk in the room that I am incompetent," says a voice inside your head. The simple resolution to this is self-image exercises. Write down ten (10) UNQUALIFIED good things about yourself. Don't write "sometimes" or "usually" or "maybe."

Read these statements to yourself in a mirror. Find a trusted friend you can talk to about the unqualified good things you know about yourself. They may be able to help you add to the number.

Go to the mall. Walk in as if it is a cocktail party, a pep rally, a singles bar, or whatever the social situation is that scares you most. Now look carefully around you. Most people are Royal Fvck-Ups. Notice it. People watching can be very helpful, because it teaches you that most people are less competent that you are.

You will not overcome your anxiety overnight, but the better you get at it, the better you get at it.

Blessed be...

well I have social anxiety right now, but it has been a lot better lately. I go to a therapist and it helps a lot and when I leave my anixety isn't bad. people with this disorder really need to get help because it doesn't just go away it can be a very devastating life long disease. also you have to have confidence in yourself usually people with this have really low self esteem, and don't worry about what people think.
