I think that ideally it should be a close friendship - almost on a best friend level. You should be able to talk to your mom about anything and know she is there for you know matter what - no judging, no attitudes, just that she is there for you 100%. I know I don't have that with my mom and I know very few people who do have it, but the ones that do are very lucky.

My daughters (14 & 10) and I have a very open and honest relationship. They know what my life was like before them; all the good and all the bad. I don't keep anything from them, and I expect the same from them. I try to be a friend as well as their mother and I also show them respect as long as they show it to me. Everyone we know comments on our relationship and wishes they had the same with their daughters...all of my girls' friends wishes their mother's were like me. I'm not bragging on this relationship, I'm very happy that God has allowed me to be like this with them and that they know no matter what is going on with them I will always be there for them. I just wish my mother would have been like this with me instead of having a stick up her ***.
