wow If I had not known better Id thought it was me asking that YEARS AGO
It is sad all we can do is watch them, make sure you know who they are with at all times.. it is a sad world today. I have 4 now grown and I did all in my power to over see them, but I also allowed them to see life as it really is. Show em the homeless, they will see prostitutes, thugs in the streets we can not hide all of life from them,or when they do get out it will be a lot for them to grasp. I dont down the homeless I explain maybe some reasons these people are doing what they are but I think the best we can do IS love em raise them with strong morals adn a solid knowledge that YOU ARE THERE FOR THEM FOR EVERY THING.
I showed my children homeless shelters, shelters for battered moms and showed em ways to reach out to people who is in need, Teach em to volenter at the soup kitchen to feed those who dont have food, teach em that there are kids with no daddy and money is tight and buy em gifts place em at there door and run... only you and your child will know you made some one smile...we still do it at easter time and X mas for a few families. But in doing it you give your child more than you will ever know. Love your babies with all you have but teach em to show love. every year my kids gave 1/2 of the birthday adn christmas money to St Judes, show em all that is there but show them with an open mind and an open heart.... Our duty is to protect our child. But they can not be sheltered from it, it is a harsh fact........ our hopes is that if every one give love wouldnt it be a nice place..... this generation now will have to change it if its going to be changed.......... I miss all my children as babies. but I have raised very loving kids with a heart and love who now share this love of giving with my grand sons giving to battered shelters and soup kitchens.
DID WE CHANGE THE WORLD... NO WAY.... but we added our share of love in it

I think we all do and I feel for ya but we can't protect them forever. Imagine how upsetting and silly it would be with them going to school and having to be attached to your hand all the time. I have 2 kids but sheltering them and keeping them from the rest of the world is not an option for us. Our only option is to hope and pray that they're not like the "rest of the world" and that comes with good parenting. The rest of the world is full of parents that don't give a crap about their kids and we both know that, look at the society today. Look at what other parents let their kids walk out of the house looking like. If we watch our children grow, love, and learn respect, they won't turn out like these kids I see everyday walking around and causing trouble. That is just plain old lack of supervision and I feel sorry for those kids. They're the ones lacking the love!

You want to keep them young forever?
You mean, you don't want them to grow up and live full lives and maybe someday have little ones of their own?
Do you really mean that?
I hope not, if for no other reason than that it's impossible.
Young ones grow up. That's what they do.
Ignorance is not a good thing. If a person goes through life assuming everyone they encounter is good-willed, they are a walking victim.
Although you don't want to scare or depress your children, you want them to be able to protect themselves, don't you? To know when to not take others at their word, not think every "free" offer is really free, or everyone who says they love them really does.
The only way to "protect" them from all human wrongness is to completely isolate them from all humans, but then, they'd never know human goodness either, would they?
You're focusing exclusively on the bad side -- think of all the people who do good and beautiful things.

Awww, your kids must be young. I wanted to put mine in a plastic bubble.
But reality is there.
I was just talking to a guy who is coming to our 4H group to talk about chid safety. We agreed that one of the most dangerous things you can do is to NOT arm your kids with facts. Sure, you can put a non-scary spin on it. But the worst is parents who bring their kids up thinking life is all roses and princesses and that everyone is good and every day is perfect. Those are the ones who will go off with a stranger, pet the proverbial puppy in the trunk of a pervert's car.
You need to realize that there are good and bad. You just need to be sure they know it too. Because it's like colds. If your kid never ever gets a cold, then gets one at say, 25, they have no tolerance built up. It could kill them. Probably will.
But if you get them used to things, a little at a time, then the first bad thing won't crush them, or their faith in you as parent.

its not easy.
what i have done works and does not work.
i taught my kids what was right and what was wrong. then when they got up older my only answer to their questions about others kids at school and their friends is this. i can not control those kids and what i have taught you is what i want you to do. this is the way we do it in our family. i have a duty to you and to the family to do my best. i am not prefect but we try.
you must judge for your self what is right and what is wrong with the guide lines i have taught you when you were younger.
then keep in touch and talk to them often.
keep a family time that you can all be together and this will reinforce your ideas and let them ask you questions about normal life and how to deal with it. i often ask them what do they think and then we proceed from there.
when the kids were young we had a TV in every room but as they got older i got rid of all of the TVs but the one in the living room. so this way we all see the same thing if there is a question i am there to see it with them and we can talk about it.
doing things together no matter how simple they are helps. but you get to talk to them and they will learn your manner and they will be better for it.
there is no simple answer its a day to day repair and enjoy it as it comes. you can't change it.

You can't...Children get 3 maybe 4 years of pure Kidd life.
As soon as You turn them over to the TV, Kidd life is over.
At that point they have already enter into the high tech world of the physiological advertisement industry. Our minds are battle grounds for outside influences... our children are a number one target. Millions and millions are spent on research JUST TO CAPTURE AND PROGRAM THERE YOUNG MINDS.
I don't want to beat this to death, but you know there is a lot of truth in my words...If you want to protect your children, keep them away from the TV as long as possible...
PEACE

You teach them and don't hide anything from them. I know that I wasn't so fortunate to have an "innocent", "wholesome" childhood. I wish my parents would have told me about what certain people could do. Don't be vague and tell them not to talk to strangers, be specific. You need to let them know that there are sick people out there who do awful things to children. Your neighbor or brother-in-law could be the person victimizing the child. You have to be totally honest with them and prepare them for what's out there. The more children are prepared, the better they can prevent themselves. Thank you and may GOD bless.

You don't and shouldn't preserve their innocence. It's your job as a parent to make them aware of the dangers in life. You will not always be there to protect them, they MUST learn how to protect themselves too.
You give them age appropriate information and have them attend "Stranger Awareness" seminars when their schools/community centers offer them.
I wish this was a world where innocence could be preserved, but it isn't. To pretend it is a safe world we live in, will only invite heartache and abuse upon your children.
Sorry.

The sad thing is we cant always protect them as much as we want to they grow... ( I am right there I want to always be there when something bad happens etc and protect them for all the crap)
The only thing you can do is pray and install morals and belifves (sp?) in our children and show them the ways so when they do go out into this world with the knowledge u installed will get them through it...

There's no way you can protect them or keep them innocent forever. All you can do is make sure you do your job as a parent and make sure they are happy and healthy.
I know how you feel though. Watching my kids grow up is so painful but I know that I'm doing everything in my power to make sure they have a childhood filled with many memories.

Hi, this is Chad at the Crisis Center. We appreciate your call. We believe to satisfy your requirements, you would need to move away from modern society, ie. the forest, and raise your children in a simpler world where they can maintain some level of innocence. This would require you to learn how to skin rabbits. Thanks for calling and have a nice day.
