Your left side is optimal for sleeping, especially further into your pregnancy. When you lay on your back the weight of the baby will compress your artery that returns blood flow from the lower half of your body. If you wake up on your back don't panic just roll over sleep on your side as much as possible.

As for food, avoid lunchmeats to prevent listeriosis, a dangerous thing for pregnant women to contract... it will cause miscarriage stillbirth or birth defects. Always heat lunchmeats to steaming to avoid getting this. Soft cheeses such as Brie and Bleu should be avoided for the same reason. Kingfish tilefish swordfish mackerel and Great Lakes fish should be avoided due to their high mercury content. Ask your doctor for a complete list but these are the big no-no's.

And you didn't ask but another danger is if you have a cat DO NOT change the catbox if you can have someone else do it for you...otherwise wear gloves and wash your hands well. Cat feces carry toxoplasmosis, which is harmless to the general population but very dangerous to the baby for mom to contract.

Well, the reason they say it isn't good to sleep on your back is because there is a vein that runs along your back. After about 20 weeks, the baby can press on that vein and restrict blood flow to both it and you. Don't worry if you find yourself on your back though, it won't do any harm. The best way to sleep in on your left side. It gives more room to the baby, and will help with circulation. I personally can't sleep on my left side for long, so I usually end up on my right, which is fine. Either side is ok.

I find it's easier if I have a few pillows. Let me explain. I put one between my legs, that takes the weight off my hips from my other leg pressing down. I put one under my stomach and along my side so my arm has somewhere to go and my belly is supported. And I put one against my back, so my back has support and it helps keep me on my side.

If you don't have it yet, I would suggest getting the book "what to expect when you're expecting". It's the called the pregnancy bible for a reason!! I always recommend this to my patients and it's a really good book. It can put all your fears to rest and can help you with common pregnancy symptoms and problems.

On what to eat, there is a diet recommended in that book. I find it's too hard to stick to it though, so make sure you are eating healthy things most of the time. Focus on fruits and veggies if they don't make you sick and try to stay away from a lot of fat ( I know.. all us pregos have cravings, and we can indulge them, just do it carefully and in low quantities. My latest is cream cheese brownies!! I ate 5 in one day!! How bad of me!!). Make sure you are drinking a lot of water. You need about 8-10 glasses a day. Sounds like a lot, but it will help with certain problems later on in pregnancy and will keep you from getting others this early on.

Exercise in moderation and if you find yourself getting too tired during your workout, drop the amount and time you do. If you are exhausting yourself, you are working too hard!!

Remember to take your vitamins!!! I can't stress this enough!! If you are unsure of what to take, the prenatal ones they sell at the grocery store or walmart are fine!!! They have the same stuff in them that the prescription ones do and are more likely to not upset your tummy.

Also, I'm sorry for your loss!! I had 2 miscarriages and a still birth before my first live birth. Now I have 2 girls and a baby on the way!! It will all work out. Good luck to you, and I hope I helped!!

I been in your situation before. And I was in the military during that time I found out my girlfriend at the time was pregnant, the town bicycle, and she didn't who whose baby it was. From my experience, there's nothing you can do. It's ultimately her choice who she wants to have sex with and if she wants to keep the baby or not. You cannot make her decide otherwise no matter how hard you try or what you do. So yeah, you'll have to do what I did. Forget about her and move on which in your case it'll be going to boot camp, and back in my case I went on a Naval Ship for 6 months out to sea. As an additional note....keep in the back of your mind that someday your ex girlfriend might come back claiming the kid to be yours. This happened to me...and what you need to do is get a paternity test done to validate that the child is indeed yours. Don't let her trick you into thinking that the two of you can work things out and that the kid is yours. Let the test prove it....and now I have a daughter but I've never hooked back up with the ex girlfriend.

The best position to sleep is on your left side!! Put a pillow between your legs and behind your back!! It will take some of the pressure off!! There is nothing you can really do to keep from having a miscarriage!! You can not stop it, if it is going to happen it will happen!! You do not cause them, there is usually something wrong with the baby!! I know it is hard because i had 2 miscarries and it was really scary trying again!! Good luck to you!! Just take care of yourself!!!

O, foods to stay away from are raw seafood!!! Certain cheeses, ask your doc and they will tell you more!!!

You do have a Dr. don't you? The Dr. will probably give you pre-natal vitamins. Sleep anyway that you feel comfortable. Can put a pillow under your belly when ya lay on the side. Can eat just about anything that doesn't make you sick. Try not to eat too much salt as it makes you retain fluid.I went thru different hunger pangs, bunny food(lettuce, carrots, radishes, any raw veggies. Then the ice cream kick, pickles, pizza. To only name a few. Ya feel like ya have to have it right now. Best of luck to you and the baby.

Go buy the book "What to expect when expecting" It will answer all these questions and more about pregnancy. And rest assure, the chance of you doing someting that caused your miscarriage is very slim. Normally its due to problems sin the embroy, not the mom. Just take your prenatal vitamins, don't eat swordfish, shark, too much tuna, sushi, lunch meat, shellfish, raw or under cooked meat, soft cheese, alchohol, drugs, and see your dr.

Honestly, you can sleep any way you want as long as you are still comfortable. The best position to sleep is on your left side since that increases blood flow to the baby.

As far as what to eat ... try to limit caffeine intake and do not eat raw or undercooked meat.

You can sleep anyway you'd like as long as you are comfortable.(use pillows between the knees) The baby is inside the bag of fluid and believe me, it will kick and turn to get comfortable too! Can't sleep on your belly when your further along anyway.

Stay away from spicy foods and onions!
Good luck!!

I had a baby 3 yrs ago, i remember that they wanted me to sleep on my left side for best nutrient flow for the baby, they grow most while you're sleeping. I am a right side sleeper so this was difficult for me but you get used to it eventually. Good luck with your new baby!!!

My doctor says the best sleep position is on your left side as much as possible.
As for foods, ones you should stay away from are lunch meats, soft cheeses (such as blue cheese, gorganzola, brie, etc.), sushi or any kind of raw/undercooked fish, undercooked meats, raw eggs, raw shellfish, and fish that is very high in mercury (tuna, kingfish, etc)
Congrats and good luck!
