When I was a kid, we took balloons and blew them up. Then we put a light coating of Vaseline on them and covered them with many layers of papier-mache. After they were fully hardened, we popped the balloon with a needle and used the hollow balls as the basis for other creative ideas. For example, I made a sort of Mr. Potato-Head out of mine. Someone else made a globe of the moon. Another made a Jack-o-Lantern. You can use almost any old piece of junk as a mold for papier-mache and then decorate it any way you please.

Have you ever started making something with no idea what you wanted to do? Sometimes it's best just to begin work and let the project tell you what it wants to be.

If I were you I would try to make a rocket, even if it didn't work it would still be a lot better then a dumb volcano. I don't think it would be too hard to make one out of paper machee, it just wouldn't work of course. Good Luck!
