I have put new spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I can keep it running if I pump the accelerator but as soon as I stop it dies.

check the fuel line , it may be clogged or there might be a clogged passegeway. The car might be overheating and causing a vapour lock if your car has a carburated car. Make sure you are using the correct fuel for the season and the car.

Have a clean air filter. Clean the carb, with carb cleaner. uhmm can be a number of things though, but if you pump it and it will run, it must be a gas problem, so the carb is what I would say.,
