Chances are they are feeding at night. Many Pleco's do. Just like you, they don't eat 24 hours per day.

Also remember, they don't just eat algae. Every now and then try feeding them peas, cukes, lettuce. They are veggie eaters. I'll give mine some Emerald Entre every now and then to supplement the algae.

That's what algae eaters do. You did not specify what type of algae you have (otocinclus, pleco, chinese or siamese algae eater), but many are nocturnal and will spend the day tucked away somewhere, only coming out at night.
Also, the idea that they will clean your tank is a misconception. While some may nibble on algae, they will not (in most cases) clean every bit of algae, nor will they "clean". They need to be fed algae wafers, shrimp pellets, or driftwood (some plecos are driftwood eaters and need some wood in the tank).

Also, if you have common plecos, know that they can grow to a foot and a half, and anything smaller than 70 gallons will stunt their growth.

My algae eaters would lie on the same rock for 2 weeks, but that might be just 'cause there's so much filth in my tank.
