He is as far from a Christian as one can get. He is filled with hatred and bigotry.
I hope that all families of veterans also reject this charlatan as anything but a "man of God." That goes for his congregations/family as well.
I had the dishonor of meeting up with these hypocrites when attending a dinner at the last national display of the AIDS Quilt in 2000. They will stop at nothing to get their hate-spewing agenda across.

His is one of those people that is a bigot hiding under the guise of religion. Even some of his kids (4 out of 13) have disowned him and say he is a fanatic nut. He is definitely delusional and needs to see a shrink or will see the big shrink in the sky when he meets St. Peter. His therapy will take so long, he may never make it to where he is going.

Phelps is an extreme radical & he DOES NOT represent the majority of Christians.
================================
"A lot of damage has been done by Christians offering a simplistic concept of change. Many give the admonition that homosexuality is sin and that people just need to stop sinning. This approach lacks understanding and probably lacks compassion as well. While behavior is certainly one aspect of homosexuality, there are other facets of homosexuality that can also be changed.
homosexually-oriented people can:
Change behavior -- that is, stop involvement in a homosexual lifestyle.
Reduce, manage and in some cases, practically eliminate homosexual feelings and attractions
And in many cases (though not all), experience satisfying heterosexual relationships. "

Truly a man who has a cult and nothing to do with religion. Man of hate who will stop at nothing to achieve his end.
No wonder people get turned off to organized religion with man like Fred Phelps.

I saw a dog eat another dog's vomit once and he promptly threw it up all over the sidewalk. That second hand puke is Fred Phelps.

God hates the sin, yet God loves the sinner. that's the main portion of the gospel message, some thing which you and Fred Phelps have curiously missed. Fred Phelps is an occasion of what can ensue while human beings attempt to interpret Scripture exterior of the context of the authority of the Catholic Church. that's what the Catholic Church has to assert approximately homosexuality: Chastity and homosexuality 2357 Homosexuality refers to family between adult men or between women people who adventure an unique or important sexual allure in direction of persons of the comparable intercourse. It has taken a large sort of types for the duration of the centuries and in distinctive cultures. Its psychological genesis maintains to be regularly unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which grants gay acts as acts of grave depravity, custom has continually declared that "gay acts are intrinsically disordered." they are opposite to the organic regulation. They close the sexual act to the present of existence. they do no longer proceed from a real affective and sexual complementarity. decrease than no situations can they be approved. 2358 The form of fellows and ladies people who've deep-seated gay inclinations isn't negligible. This inclination, that's objectively disordered, constitutes for many of them an ordeal. they could desire to be universal with admire, compassion, and sensitivity. each sign of unjust discrimination of their regard could desire to be prevented. those individuals are noted as to fulfill God's will of their lives and, in the event that they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's bypass the problems they could come upon from their condition. 2359 gay individuals are noted as to chastity. by way of the virtues of self-mastery that instruct them inner freedom, at circumstances by way of the help of disinterested friendship, by way of prayer and sacramental grace, they could and could gradually and resolutely mindset Christian perfection. .

Umm what do you think we would think. Think about it. hmmm....that's like asking the jews what they think about Hitler or Mel Gibson.
To: I WANT IT NOW. You don't approve of the "gay lifestyle" yet you obviously don't mind a little fornication once in a while. Ahh your hypocrisy and watered down homophobia...
Reply to I WANT IT NOW: JUST LIKE I THOUGHT - YOURE A BIG OL HOMOPHOBIC JERK. IT'S NOT A LIFESTYLE AND WE DIDN'T ASK FOR YOUR APPROVAL. IS BEING HETRO A LIFESTYLE? IGNORANT!
MARL T:
Your concept that Christianity can change a homosexual is offensive and ignorant no matter how nice you are about it:
"Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group."
"Gay and lesbian people have families, and their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay bashing and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriage."
"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people.... But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream, to make room at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."
Mrs. King said that her late husband Martin Luther King Jr. supported the quest for equality by gays and said that the 1963 March on Washington was organized by Bayard Rustin, an openly gay civil rights activist.
-Coretta Scott King (wife to Martin Luther King Jr.)
"Jesus did not say, 'If I be lifted up I will draw some'." Jesus said, 'If I be lifted up I will draw all, all, all, all, all. Black, white, yellow, rich, poor, clever, not so clever, beautiful, not so beautiful. It's one of the most radical things. All, all, all, all, all, all, all, all. All belong. Gay, lesbian, so-called straight. All, all are meant to be held in this incredible embrace that will not let us go. All."
"Isn't it sad, that in a time when we face so many devastating problems – poverty, HIV/AIDS, war and conflict – that in our Communion we should be investing so much time and energy on disagreement about sexual orientation?" [The Communion, which] "used to be known for embodying the attribute of comprehensiveness, of inclusiveness, where we were meant to accommodate all and diverse views, saying we may differ in our theology but we belong together as sisters and brothers" now seems "hell-bent on excommunicating one another. God must look on and God must weep."
Since then Dr. Tutu has increased his criticism of conservative attitudes to homosexuality within his own church, equating homophobia with racism. Stating at a conference in Nairobi that he is "deeply disturbed that in the face of some of the most horrendous problems facing Africa, we concentrate on 'what do I do in bed with whom"
-ArchBishop Desmond Tutu
It’s so wonderful being a gay person. I said that before. I’m going to say it again. I love being gay. And I love gay people. I think we’re better than other people. I really do. I think we’re smarter and more talented and more aware and I do, I do, I totally do. And I think we’re more tuned in to what’s happening, tuned into the moment, tuned into our emotions, and other people’s emotions, and we’re better friends. I really do think all of these things. And I try not to forget them.
-Larry Kramer

He's out there, but fortunately, he's a dying breed. Best thing to do is ignore him, he gets off on the attention, no matter how bad it is, and that keeps him motivated.
