Dear Mel - I believe Gore has taken a very courageous stand. And indeed he is the one to lead this effort. There is no one scientist who is perhaps as well known globally as Mr Gore or who could present the facts as well as he has. And he is not making this story up as he goes along but rather is consistent and relies on the scientific community for his information. "An Inconvenient Truth" may have relied in several instances on the outside of a range of possible outcomes but regardless of which numbers he used, they all point in the same direction.

Unless the younger generation accepts the work of my generation on this problem you will not have the same earth to look forward to for even your children let alone your grandchildren. I would suggest you apply Pascal's wager to this issue as there is nothing you could loose in the bargain.

No, he's awesome. Have you ever seen him do his Inconvinient Truth presentation in person? He is amazing. The presentation is great but when he presented at my university he was so warm, friendly, and extremely funny. He started off the evening just talking about conversational stuff and telling a bunch of jokes for a while. I guess he could come off as sore about the election still because he did make quite a few jokes about that and Bush but I think he's over it. He isn't going to run again even though many want him to. He's more focused on the environment and spreading the word about what's happening to our planet and what people can do about it, which is great.

In his movie he stresses that he used global warming and the ozone "crisis" as his route to political power.

Sure, he's a politician. Why anybody thinks politicians should dabble in science is beyond me, but I guess everyone needs a hobby.
