You can either soak them in cold water for a couple of days and then apply Shout or spot test them to make sure they won't get bleached, but Hydrogen Peroxide is the best to get out blood stains.

Use Dawn dish washing soap full strength ..saturate area , rub in, let sit . wash as usual. If the stain is still visible, repeat the process till all the stain is out. If you accidentally dry the garment you can still get the stain out with the Dawn. Dawn works well on any organic stain. When you are close to your start date, you might want to use a thin every day pant iliner to protect your clothes.

I guarantee this works, no matter how bizarre it sounds:
Stretch garment over a small bowl. Pour enough liquid peroxide over to wet the stain. Sprinkle with Adolph's Meat Tenderizer. Let this sit for 15 minutes to a half hour. Then wash normally.
The enzymes in the blood will react to the peroxide making it vulnerable to the active ingredients in the meat tenderizer, neutralizing the blood.
It works for me every time.

If you catch it while the blood still is fluid and still has your body temperature, use luke warm water and soap. If the blood already dried use cold water and soap.
Salt is a real help with red wine stains that did not yet dry, I don't find it helpful with dried blood.

Dimplemum is right that COLD water is critical. Whatever you do, don't use hot water, as this will set the stain.
If you can catch it while it's fresh, soap works, along with the cold water.
I've never tried the salt thing...I'd be curious to know how well it works.

hydrogen peroxide.....I used this on my son's shirt after he split his head open. It got out the blood but did not ruin the material.
