Intel Core 2 Dua is better and has been proven to be faster and more reliable than AMD by a research group (shouldn't mention the company here). AMD used to be the top dog until Intel came out with the Duo.

As someone who has built both platforms, and who most recently built only AMD, I would say of those two, the E6400. Cooler, faster. AMD has slipped behind a bit recently.
Matter of fact, E6400 is what's on my list right now. If you are really savvy, it's got far more overclocking room than the 5200+ too.

if you are going to build a high end gaming pc go with AMD. i have tried both and in my opinion i prefer intel over AMD because of all the anti- crash protection they have. im not a gamer at all, but ive noticed that AMD chips although they say they perform at 1.8 they do more per cycle so the speed of the AMD 1.8 GHz is equal to that of an Intel 2.8. also when playing high end games like F.E.A.R AMD outperform Intel. so if its for gaming purposes then AMD all the way.

No one really knows how Intel benchmark their processors speed, so It's a little bit difficult to say which is faster. But if it's for general computing, either will do. If it's for gaming, well, either will do also as it's the graphics card that counts there.

It would depend on what games you are planning on playing.
Though, the Core 2 Duo seems to be outperfoming most of the AMD chips these days.
Here is a good link to a site that allows you to compare these processors on several different games and programs

I have always preferred AMD over Intel, so I would suggest the Athlon X2.

IMO the Intel chip is much better, especially if you're going to overclock.
Here's a review that compares those two chips head on.
