All of them really. The constitution was written in order to be rigid and flexible at the same time. So really, the purpose of the constution depends on the situation at hand. But I guess you could say the overall purpose of the constution is to 'form a more perfect union.' Read the document itself, the Preamble is the first paragraph, the Articles are the next 7 sections, the Bill of Rights are the next 10 sections, and the other Amendments are the last 17 sections. Start at the 27th amendment when you read though. When you find the words 'to form a more perfect union,' look at what paragraph its in, and you'll have you answer.

But if you had to pick one, the purpose of the Preamble is to explain what the goal of the Framers were, so that would be the closest to a single "purpose".
