the idiom... stabbed them in the back?

i think it means to hurt someone without them having any prior knowledge or reason to belive ur gona hurt them...like if you were to be stabbed in the back,you'd be turned away from the person, therefore, not expecting to be hurt.

It usually has to do with the concept of betrayal.

For example, Hitler claimed that Germany lost WWI because it had been "stabbed in the back" by incompetent military officers.

"Stabbed in the back" may have had resonance with Germany citizens who may have known some Germanic mythology in which the archetypal hero Sigfried is laid low by a "stab in the back" from a supposed friend.
