One thing you should remember, the Crisis did not happen in a vacuum. Specifically, the Soviets put missiles into Cuba as a way of responding to all of the pressure the USA had been putting on the Eastern Bloc because of access to West Berlin. Specifically, American and Western influence was being used to pull all of the professionals out of Eastern Europe through the soft membrane at Berlin, thus continuing to hurt the Warsaw Pact's economic recovery.

The Cuban Missile Crisis evolved from a mutual distrust the two greatest superpowers in the world had for each other.

Your paper could then go into why the Russians felt they had to move missiles into Cuba and why the US, no way, wanted missiles in Cuba.
