For current accounts, check out the Halifax Ultimate Reward

6.17% AER on credit balances up to £2,500 - and the first £300 of any agreed overdraft limit interest-free

Rudely ignore NatWest, as I got a REALLY sh*t deal off them a couple of years ago, and switched to Halifax instead....... constantly nailed me with £28 fines from them putting me overdrawn with £28 fines for going overdrawn faster than I could put money in to cover it.......... in branch personal banker spoke down to me as if I was a spastic when I went in to complain......... Switch/Maestro debit card rejected in a few places several times, despite having over £80 in my account both times (Halifax gives you a VISA debit card that actually works practically everywhere + automatically gave me a £1000 overdraft facility, when I struggled to get even a £50 one off NatWest).

For Savings accounts......... Halifax again have some good ones, the WEBSAVER I have with them pays 4.75%AER with cash withdrawal card, and 5%AER if you go without one.

At the end of 12months (£250 x 12 = £3,000)
With card = £3,076.64
Without card = £3,080.64

However, there are higher paying ones if you check out the comparison facility @ The Motley Fool (and a Savings Calculator):

The Lloyds TSB Monthly saver (8%AER/Gross) looks worth a look. After 12months you'd have saved up: £3,128.47

Have a look at nationwide, they have a regular savings account, which was 6% I think...... you can also open a current account, which has interest, and you can use internet banking to move your money around. Cahoot savings is supposed to be quite good interest too.

HSBC or Natwest offer the best at the moment. I think HSBC is offering 5.25% on their Online Savers account.
And I think you'd be better off investing all of that money in 1 savings account instead of 2.
HSBC pays your interest MONTHLY, and you can choose to reinvest it in the savings acc, or have it paid out to you as 'income'. I'd advise reinvesting it back, as you'll build up compounded interest.
