For the past year or so, I've been having dreams about a guy I went to school with. I did like him (romatically) at times, but in general, he was just a friend. I saw him and his wife a while ago and hardly said anything to him, but I keep having these dreams about him! It's like we're attracted to each other and have feelings for each other, but we are both married and don't want to hurt our spouses. I had a dream about him last night again and it was to the point where we were so in love w/ each other that we were seriously thinking about leaving our spouses to be with each other! It was SO real. We were holding each other and even kissed. The weird thing I don't understand is that I haven't really talked to this person since high school and that was 13 years ago. I'm happily married and don't understand why I would be having these romantic dreams about someone else?!?! Can anyone offer some insight???????

Even though you are happily married, maybe subconsciously you wish to explore the relationship with your friend further? Do you think you are experiencing a feeling of nostalgia? You said you saw the man not too long ago. Maybe seeing him kindled some feelings in you that you had back when you were in school. Dreams can be a safe way of exploring feelings and working out issues. What ever is in the subconscious usually surfaces in dreams.

Yes, I can try to explain it. We women are emotional creatures and react strongly to certain feelings. You did not really know this guy when you were in school but you formed an idea about him and the emotion came with his image. When you saw him again, even with his wife, it brought back that emotion and it was a fond one that you might yearn to feel again because we all miss our youth or at least one aspect of it.

Seeing him sparked that inside you and your dreams reflect the emotions you crave or find interesting for a change. So you don't know that man but you know the feeling associated with him and enjoy it.

He is someone you hardly know and could be a total toad if you had to be his wife or his lover. You don't want him, he is just hooked into your emotional system and your memories. You are fine. You have a good marriage and that makes you lucky.

One trick that helps me with emotional associations is to pray (or wish very hard) that the man is happy and is adored by his family and friends. In wishing him happiness without knowing you or being a part of your life, you are letting your emotion be free and independent of his image. Your feelings are safe and intact within you and you can enjoy your life in the knowledge that you will experience many other emotions women deal with, even as you grow older with your own husband. You are just a woman and our feelings run deep and wild. Peace and Contentment.

This sounds like it is more about power than your old friend. Your brain may just be using him as a symbol. Is there a situation in your life right now that you feel powerless over?
