I'm not a phenomenal athlete, and I'm not trying to make the big leagues or anything, but I would like to be able to hit better. I field and throw the ball well, I just can't hit for sh!t. I'm not even very good at hitting slow-pitch softballs, which is pretty pathetic. Any pointers?

By the way, I'm not terribly worried about my power, I'm just trying to cut down on the strikeouts.

Take a broom handle and put some tape or a grip on it. Then buy some wiffle golf balls and have someone pitch them overhand to you. Use the broom handle as a bat. I used to do this before each game and it made the baseball look like a basketball. They do make thin baseball bats (about the size of a broom handle) but this is the cheap man's version. Good luck.

I know its cliche, but keep your eye on the ball. If you watch it from the pitchers hand and through the strike zone, you'll find that you'll make more contact.
Here's a drill: Have someone pitch to you but DON'T SWING. Watch the ball as it passes you and make a note of where it is when it crosses the plate. After the pitch, point the bat at the spot that the ball crossed the plate. Do this a bunch of times. Then, have them pitch to you and don't swing, but just stick out the bat and try to touch the ball as it passes, like bunting. Then try some swings. This should help your hand-eye coordination and at least you'll put the ball in play.

The way I teach kids is to start with hitting off a t. Then go to soft toss(some just kneels next to you and tosses balls in front. Then live pitching. Best bet is to find a friend who does hit well to help you through these steps.

start off by usuing a lighter bat. and start off hitting slow pitches...your just gonna have to practice a lot. Theres not really a secret ting that you can do to get better all of a sudden. also, you can get private or public lessons with coaches and learn the mechanics of hitting

first thing you need to do is relax and dont worry, then you need to focus on swinging easier you dont have to swing hard to hit the ball hard. probally the best thing is to hit of a tee and then work your way up it will take awile trust me youll need patience
