Yes we should and I'm not be sarcastic either. They clog up seating room on Airplanes, they put a major strain on our health care system, not to mention our check books, as we our forced to pay through taxes, for their medical problems and provide them with monthly checks cause their too unhealthy to work. Add on to that, they're strain on the electric companies who must provide them with energy so they can run their air conditioners full blast during the summer months to keep their fat bodies cool and it's just a no brainer. If people want to continue throwing caution to the wind and be so careless with their bodies, the rest of us shouldn't have to fit the bill. So let me repeat. I MOST DEFINITELY would TAX FAT PEOPLE! And to those who are fat and are offended by these words. Quit living in denial and do something to help yourselves. Stop relying on the rest of America to be your lifeline. Being fat is not OK, it's not cool or sexy, and it is not one's own personal choice if doing so means that we get to pay for your to stay home so you can keep eating, and fit the bill for all your medicine and hospital stays. Get your butts off the couch and take some intuitive for goodness sakes!

This is a common argument in states which have a national health service. If you're arguing with regard to such a state, it may make sense, though it is likely to be highly controversial. Obese people use more health service resources: cigarettes and alcohol are highly taxed on that principle, though obesity counts for far more deaths.

Private medical insurance companies already charge obese people higher premiums for their health insurance. It is probably just a matter of time before the public health sector decides it has to go the same way.

In the US, which doesn't have a national health service, there's no good argument for taxing obese people higher than anyone else. This would be very unfair and simply punish them without benefit to the rest of society.

Why the rudeness? I find this a perfectly logical question. Obese people are a pain for the State's budget.

Oh, I forgot most of you are from the US. Well, in many other countries we got a national and customary health care system. And, save a little percentage of cases (congenital illnesses, extreme obesity, and the like), getting fit only requires a moderate amount of effort. (Been there, done it - I know what I'm talking about). I can't find of a better way of motivating these people to move than making them pay, so State money could be used for other, better purposes.

No. Government should stay the heck out of our lives as much as possible.

However, I have no problem with insurance companies charging higher premiums for grossly obese people (not just a little overweight, I mean the really really obese). After all, they DO use more health care services and are a greater health risk.

I'm sure my opinion is somewhat controversial.

I think it's probably a better choice to tax people who are stupid as they are more of a strain on our resources.

Of course we should tax overweight people. And hateful people. And drunks. And dopers. And old people. And widows. And those who wear glasses. And babies who wear diapers. And those with freckles. And those who with cavities.
