I want to create a sports game, this game would be distrubuted as freeware, but the nature of the game would require a subscription fee, which would be going towards the cost of development, ie the cost of paying developers and games designers, with myself doing the graphics.

I would like to hear from people with experience programming games, to hear if this is possible to do, and what i would need to do it?

Also, if anyone would like to help me with this project as i feel it could be a very nice little game to be part of, and any help would be great.

Forget the graphics, and do it as a web-based game w/ subscription.

I studied physics engines/ rigid body dynamics for my degree and have often thought about games programming. To get a game through development usually takes years, a team of programmers and lots of money. The main reason for this is that it takes whole host of skills to program a complete game.
I don't see how the subscription model could be used to finance the game unless it's released incomplete and constantly updated (the microsoft model) or maybe released level by level and I am not sure how this would work with a sports game.
It sounds like a great idea, but I think the term Sports game is a bit vague, maybe something which is a bit off the wall....maybe an extreme ironing game or something quirky like that or a game like daley thompsons decathlon (am I showing my age? ) but with different sports. the sports game genre has been done in almost every form so far.

from a programming point of view for a small group it would take dedication and a lot of perseverence to get the finished article. Did you have any specific sport in mind?

It is possible but on your own it would take years if you fully program for 3D. If you don't know C or C++ then it will take even longer.
There is a program called Dark Basic which allows you to create full games easily this however isnt free software.
If you learn C or C++ then in a few years you would be able to complete the game but unless in a group and whole 3D game will take years.
