There are many rumors out there, but the popular belief is that Bleach earned its name from the band Nirvana. We know Tite Kubo is an avid music fan, so it makes sense that he'd name his second series after Nirvana's debut album, Bleach.

DID YOU KNOW?: Tite Kubo is such an avid music fan, that many of the characters in Bleach have their own theme songs (real actual songs) and several of the manga's chapter titles come from various popular tunes.
