How do I look up a obituary/death notice in Holland for the possible death of an American?

Rumor is that someone I was knew passed away a month ago in Holland and I don't know where to start my search.

Look under the State Department's website and look for the American Consultate in the Netherlands. They should be able to help you out with this.
