Guppies are cold and warm water tollerant fish. I have 50 of them in my 30 gallon fresh water feeder tank (No heater never was) and 25 (mix with Fancy's) in my 175 salt water tank (Temp 85). . Water temp remains between 60-65 degrees in my fresh water.
If you are wondering if you have to have a heater, no you don't. Technically they are both cold and warm water. What most people don't know is that guppies are actually salt water fish. They can be fresh, salt or brackish water fish with a wide variety of temperatures and salinity levels. they are inexpensive to keep and breed in any of these water types and with such a versitile fish, the suppliers found a gold mine. My LFS sells them for .10 each as feeders so it cracks me up when I see them on sale for $1.99 or $2.99 each. (Even the fancy's at other pet stores)
I do not keep them in my outside ponds, since to remove them before winter would be impossiable.

That is false. Guppies are tropical fish, meaning warm water. There tanks should be equipped with a heater set to around 75F.

Depends - what temperatures are you considering as "cold"?
If you're planning to keep them in an outdoor pond overwinter in the north, I guarantee you'll be buying new ones every year.
Are you looking for something for a tank without a heater? What temperature is your water? They can survive temperatures into the mid 60s, but won't necessarily thrive in them. Around 72 or higher should be okay for them.

Guppies like mildly warm water. If you live in a warmer climate there is no need for a heater in the tank.
