For a 11th seed, I think Winthrop is in a nice bracket. Notre Dame is a tough challenge, but they are much much tougher at home in South Bend than on the road. They have only beaten one ranked team on the road, Maryland. They have lost to the likes of St John's, Depaul and South Florida on the road. You could also debate how strong the Big East conference is (but it is very competitive).
Oregon has been all over the place this season, and probably one of the most unpredictable high seeds in the tournament. The Pac 10 wasn't so strong this season. Wisconsin has struggled to score lately so if Winthrop can run up the score, we could see Winthrop in the Elite Eight.
That would make Florida's route to the Final Four much easier...

While I think Winthrop is a very good team and have shown it by only losing to North Carolina, Wisconsin, Maryland and Texas A&M (all 4 seeds or higher in the tournament), I think Notre Dame is going to be trouble for them. ND has good inside-outside balance with Russell Carter (17.2 ppg) and Colin Falls (3.3 3 pointers per game, 15.4 ppg) and Kurz (12.6 ppg) and Harangody (11.5 ppg) inside. Notre Dame can score points in a hurry from the perimeter, so Winthrop will have to play great perimeter defense to have a chance. In the end, I think ND is to big and too skilled for Winthrop, even though they have had a great season. But it's the tournament, anything can happen. Even if they do beat Notre Dame, they will most likely have to face Oregon in the second round, another team with great perimeter players.

I'm guessing they get knocked out by either Notre Dame in the first round or Oregon in the second. These teams both score a lot of points and I don't see Winthrop being able to keep up. Feel free to rub it in ym face though when Winthrop winds up in the Sweet 16! =)

I really like Winthrop but Notre Dame is a tough draw in the first round. They have serious offense. Winthrop will need to control the ball to win. If they get past ND, I think they have a good shot at Oregon, and then, who knows?

I am from the West. I think Winthrop can go Sweet Sixteen. But hey haven't snuck up on anyone so they cannot win it all.

I have them winning in the first round because I think they're one of the most underrated teams in the nation and they seem like a team who'll be pumped up to win a tourny game

The only game I watched them was in the Big South championship against VMI and they really struggled in that game. Maybe VMI was playing over their heads, but if Winhtrop struggled to win that game, they will be in trouble against a team like Notre Dame, that has so many weapons they can beat you with.
