I'm sure I'm going to get people telling me how wonderful best friends are for support and soforth, but that's not really what I'm asking. What I want to know is this: why place your friends on a heirarchy? I mean, do you have a best parent, or a best brother, or a best child? No. You love them differently, for different reasons, and that's okay. But for some reason, friendship has been given this silly, competative quality, whereby people vie for the position of 'best' friend. I'd rather treat my friends like equals and forgo all the high school silliness and jealousy that seems to accompany this trend. My friendships are better for it.

My inner circle I call my heart friends, my soul friends, my best of friends... but only to myself. Not only does the best friend moniker imply the things you listed, it also puts pressure on people: 'a best friend MUST do this or that'... it puts people on a pedestal. A true friend gives what they can offer freely, and in return ask for nothing more than that.

its gd to know tat u treatin ur frnds equaly but sometimes one of ur frnds in due course of time comes closer to u due to many diffrent reasons n then u develop a comparitivly strongr relationship with him n thers nothin wrong in it ur not being unfair to others

For me, because my best friend is gonna be the one sitting next to me in the principal's office saying how awesome that was.
