Im working on a project that is a vista style start button with menu and I need a way to change the windows start key (when the program is running) to open the menu and not the original start menu.
Can this be done in Visual Basic.Net?
If so how?

I want how to stop the windows button opening the original start menu NOT how to cover it up as this can be done.

The START button is part of Explorer.exe, the windows command "shell". You'd have to write a whole new shell, that allows the button to be disabled or hidden.
You could dig deep into the Windows API, but that's the land of scary things. And no guarantee it's possible.

This is difficult seeing that the start menu is not a program but part of the operating system, the only way out I see with .net is putting your menu directly over the original start menu using a special form with only one button that cant be moved.
change the form properties so it cant be resized or moved.

As both of the posts above me state, this is a very difficult task because what you are asking for is changing a functionality of the Operating System itself rather than creating a program that runs under it.
