It simply is a theory of an after life and is not original to Christianity or any religion that you have ever heard of.

Cave men, indians, and tribal cultures all over the world from the beginning of time have had these concepts and they are clearly indicated in archaeology digs - and there is a lot of similarities.

Many cultures awaited the flesh to rot off the bones and then exhume the skeleton and painted the bones with a red ocher paint to indicate that the person in the grave still had a live. That was done by Neanderthals and many indian cultures in the US.

I don't know why you mentioned "western European history," that has nothing to do with something that is almost a universal concept.

Eschatology is the theology of the end times. In the case of Christianity it's the Tribulation, the Rapture, the Second Coming of Christ, the Judgement Day, and the New Heaven and the New Earth. Basically the interpertation and application of the Book of Revelations.

Other religions have their own "end of the world" theories too. Eschatology could be more broadly applied to cover those theories as well.

I don't know if you spelled it right, but I think it means the theology of Christ returning at the rapture, and of the ressurection of the dead. something like that.
