Atleast in Canada, when we had horse and buggies, they took the roads...
Actually, when the Romans were marching, they had roads...
Roads have actually been around for a long time, I suspect he was humouring you as others have suggested...

I know some parts of Wyoming has no roads...but South Dakota....I would find that hard to believe. I live in Maryland

Wow, thats pretty sad. I once told a friend that she shouldn't go swimming in the lake because it had H2O in it, so she didn't! She was about 19 at the time.
