I have heard that a solution of soapy water works. Can you use regular dish soap for this?Or do you need a special kind of soap?

If you want the perfectly organic solution, the best way to get rid of them is to get some ladybugs on them. Ladybugs are aphid eating machines and will clean your rose-bushes of ever last one of them within a couple days.

And when the aphids are gone, so too will the ladybugs. I've even used this indoors before when I couldn't risk pesticides.

I've also heard the dish soap/ water mix in a squirt bottle to squirt the leaves works, but the best method is to introduce ladybugs to the plant. They love to eat the aphids and you should be able to buy ladybugs at your local nursery.

I have had a problem with aphids on my lupines I first tried spraying them that worked for a very short time they just doubled in the amount of aphids the next year I tried lady bugs it worked ok but the next year again the aphids had reall taken over the plants so i tried a product called Schultz expert insect spray which kills bugs on contact(I was worried because I have 4 cats that spend alot of time in my flowers but this product was suposed to be non toxic to animals) it worked it killed the bugs - the animals in my yard were fine It also says you can use it on edibles with in one day of the harvest-My lupines actually bloomed-I will use this product again!

I don't know about soap. Wouldn't that hurt the rosebush? We buy ladybugs at the plant nursery and they work really well. It's also really cool to see them all released!

Go to a Lawn & Garden center at Wal* Mart or K Mart, etc. & look for what you need. I know the name of the product (Ortho ?) but it is slipping my memory at the moment. Sorry!!
